And the journey begins...

After the longest flight of my life and a day later, I finally made it to Rome! The first glimpse of Italy was of neatly plotted vineyards surrounded by rolling green and rich yellow hills. Picture perfect, I tell you :)

After landing, we walked through a fairly deserted airport and past two conversing Italian officers who didn't bother to look at my passport...kinda interesting. On the metro connecting the airport to Rome, I saw my first glimpse of the city :) although crowded and really smoky, Rome seriously has to be one of the most quaint cities in the world! I couldn't stop taking pictures (I even have one of the cobblestone street)... :) Anyway, on one hour of sleep, I experienced some of the best Rome has to offer (including the Trevi fountain...You know the one in the Lizzie McGuire movie ;), gelato, taking pictures of the Pantheon while being mocked my young Italian boys, and trying to speak Italian to a very cute old man...).

Let's just say by the end of the day I was exhausted. To sooth my aching back, legs, feet and head, I was determined to take a shower. I should have known, however, that this Italian bathroom had some little surprises for me. One: old fashioned, temperamental key. I'm serious. They still exist. Two: lots of water at one time. Apparently I can't figure out the draining system. And Three: my attempt to turn on the fan multiple times results in shrilling noises throughout my entire apartment for all my new roommates to hear. Who knew the tugging thing was a legitimate shower alarm...not me.

Anyway, let's just say I had a great first day in Italy full of educational experiences. And with that, ciao!

  2. A shower buzzer just like you imagined in your 6th grade invention convention? Nice.
Hope you get caught up on sleep somehow, so you don't "sleep through" any tours!
    Love ya!
