Today has been super crazy! We left Rome around 9 in the morning and caught a train to Naples an hour later. After a very relaxing two hour ride, we picked up the pace and have kept it going ever since.
While the country side was absolutely breathtaking, I wasn't that impressed with Naples. It's kind of a grimy, dirty place...at least the part we walked through. I did appreciate the improved air quality from Rome, however, except when we'd walk past dumpsters. Other things I've noticed/learned: 1) Don't think many American tourists come to this particular location (from the way everyone, and I mean everyone stares). 2) The guys/men here are not afraid to yell things (don't know what, and I'm kind of cool with that), whistle, or honk their little Italian car horns at you. 3) I can move super fast in dire situations. For example. Today, when our professors decided to ditch us (I'm serious) after marching us to a really cool secret archeology dig in the middle of some tiny town outside Naples, we accidentally got on the wrong train. So I'm sitting down all nice and comfortable when all of a sudden I hear someone frantically yelling for us to get off the train. I've never moved faster in my life and really wish I had a picture of my face as I jumped off the train right as the door closed behind me. I was NOT going to chance separation from the group, I tell ya. Only 4 girls got separated from the rest of us, but they eventually made it back.
So crazy day, and it's probably not going to get less chaotic as we continue our stay here right outside Pompeii ;) Until tomorrow, ciao!
