Day 8-Italy, Rome

Today has been a day full of observances. Beginning with those made at the Capitoline Museums, let's just say I love baroque art. I was so thrilled to find more of Caravaggio's work including his David holding the head of Goliath and his Fortune Teller. I was also blessed to be able to go to the Borghese Galleria which holds the majority of Bernini's masterpieces including his David, Apollo and Daphne, and The Rape of Proserpina. They were incredible.

My other observance happened upon arriving here on Rome, but has continuously made itself known. Europeans are quite fashionable. They can pull off anything and everything it seems and the guys are always wearing nicely tailored suits. I don't know why I was so surprised about their great fashion, but dang they've got it down!

My next observance is how easily spottable Americans are (not connected to my earlier observation) on the streets, the metro, or in a restaurant. We tend to stick out a little bit...anyway, it's also easy to single out English speakers. For example, today we met some Canadian guys on the metro because they just stood out.

My fourth observance has been how much I crave certain foods. Yesterday it was McDonald's and barbecue chicken. Today it was root beer (I never drink root beer) and pancakes. Going along with food, I've seen a shortage of salt, peanut butter, regular butter, and eggs. I have a feeling this trip will help me decide my favorite foods :)

Although my day was focused more on observances, it was set at a brisk pace...but I still can't wait until tomorrow. Ciao!
