Day 6-Italy, Rome

Today was spent mostly looking at churches. Early Christian, Byzantine, and Baroque to be exact. Of the 8 churches we saw, my favorite was Borromini's San Carlo alle Quattre Fontane (St. Charles at the Four Fountains) because I love baroque art and this church's facade was incredible. Sorry I don't have a picture (on my other camera) so you'll just have to look it up. Anyway, it's a fantastically done typical facade sculpture/architecture with a dramatic baroque twist. And don't get me started on the inside ;) So incredible with the coffered ceiling and pristine white marble columns and walls pushing you towards the altar. Again, go find a picture! The other amazing piece I saw which was truly amazing in real life was Michelangelo's Moses found in the Church of St. Peter in Chains (I have a picture of this for you!). Cool story for you, this representation of Moses, along with quite a few others, actually depicts Moses with horns on his head due to a mistranslation of the word "cornuta" meaning horns instead of radiance. That probably wasn't as interesting for you as it was for me, but thanks for sticking the art history lesson out.

The next part of my evening was going to be spent finding the fountain in the movie "When on Rome," but it turns out that fountain doesn't even exist. Can you believe that? :( To curb my sadness and my cravings for meat (I've found a shortage of meat here in Italy), I ended up eating at McDonald's. Now I know what you're going to say. Brianna, why would you eat there when there's so much incredible food around you?? And to that I respond, don't diss until you're in a similar situation. I think you'll understand. By the way, best chicken sandwich ever! :D It's funny because I was looking for the dollar menu, then I realized Europeans don't use dollars...do not despair, however, I found a Euro menu.

The last portion of our evening was spent on the steps of the obelisk at Piazza del Popolo watching persistent vendors sell roses to people. It was quite entertaining until they came over to us. Following that excitement, our entire group went to this super fancy restaurant and enjoyed a legitimate 5 course meal. Talk about a satisfying end to another great day in Rome. Ciao!
