Day 29-Germany, Berlin

Germany!!! I had no idea what to expect, and I'll say I've been pleasantly surprised. When we flew into Berlin, we met a cold breeze (way different than Greece!), great smells, and a quiet city. I was surprised at all the modern buildings and amazed at some of the architectural feats that were everywhere.

We spent the afternoon walking around and hitting the main tourist spots. The Berlin wall (or where it was) and the holocaust memorial (a bunch of disorienting slabs of material at different heights) were both pretty incredible. It's crazy to think about everything that's happened historically here in Berlin, and even more so when you realize it wasn't that long ago...

After our walkabout, we all headed out as a group to enjoy food from the oldest restaurant in Berlin :) Our first course was this incredible potato soup (it was more like rich broth) that kept us satisfied until they brought out the main course: literally a chunk of ham still on the bone that was easily the biggest piece of meat I've ever been served. I have a picture! Not only was it HUGE, but it was so amazing and tender. I was also served potatoes and sauerkraut, but I didn't really like it. Oh well, here's to experiencing traditional German food :)

Following dinner, our professors ditched us again (I'm quite used to it, actually) and so we wandered around the city for a bit but then began trying to find our way back to our hotel once it started raining. I have to admit, I loved walking through the rain and didn't mind or occasional wrong turn here or there :) By the way, we only had to stop and ask for directions once before we found home.

Although we've been here less than 24 hours, I love it and can't wait for tomorrow's adventures! Tschuss!
