I don't know why church continues to amaze me every single week. Even though we're learning the same gospel principles as usual, something about the people here makes it a completely different and fresh experience. Today I met a man from Syria who impressed me so much with his faith and trust he placed in our Heavenly Father. He shared an experience about waking up every half an hour on the night his mother was traveling through the middle east to pray for her safety. He said it was because he trusted in our Heavenly Father completely (and I'll add his diligence) that his mother was kept safe. I'll never forget how sincere and humble he shared his testimony. I also met one of the sweetest young mothers who had two adorable children. Even though we had a language barrier, we understood each other well enough while I sat by her. At one point, she reached over, pulled me into a side hug and kissed me on the cheek :) I've never felt so accepted immediately after meeting someone new. It was as if nothing else mattered except for the sisterhood we found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was amazing!
After church and some relaxation, a group of us decided to hit up the city and find some food. We eventually settled on a seafood place where I ordered dogfish for the first time in my life. Just switching it up from the usual gyro ;) It was definitely fish, but was more mushy than I expected. I ate it with this really interesting mix that we deduced had some form of potatoes, artichoke, and something else. It was pretty good :) The free dessert they gave us didn't cut it (one of them was literally gelatinous cream of wheat), so we decided to look for a pastry shop one of the girls recommended. 45 minutes later (we walked past the same Starbucks five times), we finally found it and the most delicious chocolate mousse cake. It was glorious!
Naturally after that adventure, we decided to host a toga party in our room. Talk about awesome. We had a blast trying to figure how to transform out hotel sheets into stylin' Grecian apparel :) We also had a 3 minute dance party and longer photo shoot (it got hot real fast wearing those sheets so we were sweating by the end). Toga party in Greece to end the night. So great! Yassou!
Ps. I have pictures!! :D
I've decided to start this blog to capture as many memories as possible. Whether commemorating the great times, the unfortunate, or the just plain awesome ones, every moment is as important as the last. These precious memories will be brought from this life into the next. May we always remember to live each day to its fullest, respect ourselves, serve others, and honor our God.
